
Film maker Roland Emmerich jumps on the Edward de Vere bandwagon
with his new film Anonymous. Rhys Ifans plays Earl of Oxford in William
Shakespeare movie Anonymous. The film claims Edward de Vere of Oxford,
is the true author of William Shakespeare's plays.

Emmerich explores the controversial theory that the famed playwright did not,
in fact, write his own work. The belief is that the works credited to Shakespeare
were actually written by Edward de Vere, of Oxford.
Rhys Ifans, who was recently
cast in "Anonymous" as the Earl of Oxford, the man believed by
some to be the real author of the works credited to Shakespeare. Ifans is excited
about the gig, both because he'll work with Emmerich and he'll piss a lot of
people off."
"It's a story that asks the question and goes a long way to
answering it: the theory, conspiracy theory if you like, that William
Shakespeare was not necessarily the author of all, if any, of his
works," Ifans said of the basic plot. "So it will put a
glorious [wrench] in... the English-speaking world of academia, which
I have always endeavored to do, since I was a schoolchild."
The actor doesn't know all of Emmerich's plans; the actor playing
Shakespeare, for example, remains unannounced. But he's glad that
the role of the Bard doesn't belong to him.
"I'm not sure who's playing Shakespeare, but in the script he's kind of an illiterate drunk which is the part I obviously thought they had me in mind for actually," Ifans explained .........
